# Convert Taiwan Lunar Dates and Estimate Solar Terms

Lunar dates, leap months, and solar terms can be difficult to determine from Gregorian dates. This skill provides local Python calculations for lunar conversion, zodiac animals, and Taiwan solar-term estimates.

## Capabilities

- Convert Gregorian dates from 1900-01-31 through 2100-12-31 to lunar year, month, day, and leap-month status.
- Identify zodiac animals from the converted lunar year rather than the Gregorian year.
- Estimate crossing times for all 24 solar terms using apparent solar longitude and binary search.
- Report solar-term dates and times in Taiwan time, UTC\+8.
- Perform calculations with Python 3 standard libraries without network requests, API keys, or package installation.

## Use Cases

- Check Family Calendar Dates: Convert birthdays or selected dates to lunar dates and identify leap months and zodiac animals.
- Prepare Seasonal Teaching Material: List solar-term dates in Taiwan time and distinguish approximate crossing times from official calendar values.
- Prototype Offline Calendar Features: Use the supplied Python functions to test lunar conversion and solar-term calculations without external services.

## Prompt Templates

### Convert One Date

```
Convert 2026-09-25 to its Taiwan lunar date. Include the lunar year, month, day, leap-month status, and zodiac animal.
```

### Compare Year Boundaries

```
Compare the lunar dates and zodiac animals for 2026-02-16 and 2026-02-17. Explain which lunar year each date belongs to.
```

### Estimate Solar Terms

```
Calculate Qingming, Autumn Equinox, and Winter Solstice for 2026 in UTC+8. Label times as estimates and note the stated uncertainty.
```

### Build a Local Calendar Report

```
Use the supplied Python functions to summarize lunar dates for [Gregorian dates] and all solar terms for [year]. Run in a private temporary directory. Flag unsupported dates and crossings within 15 minutes of midnight. Do not invent official verification.
```

## Limitations

- Lunar conversion is limited to the included 1900-2100 table and rejects dates before 1900-01-31 or after 2100.
- Solar-term times are approximate, with stated errors around 15 minutes; crossings near midnight can yield a different date.
- The skill supplies code in SKILL.md, not an installed executable, and requires a Python 3 execution environment.
- It does not provide a dedicated lunar-to-Gregorian conversion function or an official public-holiday schedule.

## Best Practices

- Specify Gregorian dates explicitly and use Taiwan time when requesting the current lunar date.
- Preserve leap-month labels and derive zodiac animals from the converted lunar year.
- Run scripts in a private directory and verify solar-term estimates against official tables when precise dates matter.

## Anti Patterns

- Do not append to or execute a predictable shared temporary script without protecting its ownership and contents.
- Do not present approximate solar-term times as exact astronomical measurements or guaranteed official dates.
- Do not infer zodiac animals from January 1 or force lunar conversion outside the supported date range.

## Security Audit

- Audited at: 2026-10-13T03:40:04.652\+00:00
- Summary: Eight backtick findings are false positives caused by Markdown syntax, not shell command substitution. Three temporary-file findings expose a predictable shared-directory script to preexisting content or symlink attacks. No evidence found of prompt injection, credential access, or data exfiltration in SKILL.md.
