Improve Prisma Database Workflows
Prisma projects can fail from schema drift, slow queries, and unsafe migration workflows. This skill guides Claude, Codex, and Claude Code through Prisma-specific diagnosis and fixes.

Test it
Using "prisma-expert". A user-post schema has missing relation fields and slow lookups by author.
Expected outcome:
- The relation needs explicit fields and references on the child model.
- Add an index on the foreign key used by the author lookup.
- Run validation before creating a migration and review generated SQL before release.
Using "prisma-expert". A list page loads users and then fetches posts inside a loop.
Expected outcome:
- This is an N+1 query pattern because each user triggers another database call.
- Use relation loading or a targeted select to fetch only required post fields.
- Add pagination to protect large result sets.
Using "prisma-expert". A serverless app opens too many database connections.
Expected outcome:
- Reuse a single Prisma Client during warm executions.
- Configure connection limits for the deployment environment.
- Consider a pooler when traffic or concurrency exceeds direct connection limits.

Skillstore Score
Why this score Evidence Confidence: HighWhat You Can Build
Fix Prisma schema errors
Diagnose relation annotations, model fields, indexes, and naming issues before generating a migration.
Review migration safety
Check migration status, deployment commands, rollback planning, and data-loss risk before production release.
Improve query performance
Find over-fetching, N+1 relation loading, missing pagination, and missing indexes in Prisma Client usage.
Try These Prompts
Review my Prisma schema for relation mistakes, missing indexes, and field type issues. Explain the highest priority fixes first.
Help me diagnose this Prisma migration failure. Review the schema changes, migration status, and safe next steps for development and production.
Review these Prisma Client queries for N+1 problems, over-fetching, missing select clauses, pagination gaps, and index recommendations.
Design a Prisma workflow for this feature, including schema changes, transactions, migration sequencing, connection management, and production safety checks.
Best Practices
- Validate and format the Prisma schema before generating or applying migrations.
- Use select and include deliberately so queries fetch only required data.
- Review migration SQL and rollback plans before production deployment.
Avoid
- Do not use development migration commands in production environments.
- Do not fetch full relation graphs when a small field set is enough.
- Do not rely on implicit relations when explicit join models are required.
