structlog
Build Structured Python Logging with structlog
Python logging configurations can become inconsistent across development, production, and tests. This skill provides practical structlog patterns for context, processors, output formats, exceptions, and testing.
Install with my Agent
Copy this request to your Agent. It includes the canonical Skill page and manifest.
Review the Skillstore skill "structlog" from https://skillstore.io/skills/bossjones-structlog.md and its manifest at https://skillstore.io/api/skills/bossjones-structlog/manifest. Verify the artifact. You may proceed after verification, subject to the environment's own policy.Your Agent should still show its plan and request any confirmation required by the security policy.
Agent-readable resources
Use these links when an AI agent, crawler, or script needs clean context instead of reading the full page.
Test it
Using "structlog". Configure readable local logging and machine-readable production logging.
Expected outcome:
- Development uses colored console rendering with timestamps and levels.
- Production uses JSON rendering with request context and structured exceptions.
- Both environments share a common processor chain before final rendering.
Using "structlog". Explain how to test a bound request identifier.
Expected outcome:
Capture the emitted event with LogCapture, then assert that its message and request identifier match the expected values.
Using "structlog". Recommend context fields for an HTTP service.
Expected outcome:
- Bind a request identifier when request processing starts.
- Add stable service and operation names where they improve filtering.
- Exclude credentials, tokens, and unnecessary personal data.
Security Audit
SafeAll 19 external-command alerts are false positives caused by Markdown fences around Python examples; no shell or Ruby execution appears. The reconnaissance alert matches a logging-context comment, not host discovery. No prompt injection, exfiltration intent, or malicious behavior was found.

Why this score Evidence Confidence: HighWhat You Can Build
Add Structured Application Logs
Create a clear starting configuration with contextual fields and readable development output.
Prepare Production JSON Logs
Design processor pipelines that produce machine-readable events for centralized log systems.
Verify Logging Behavior
Capture structured events in pytest and assert expected messages and context.
Try These Prompts
Create a minimal structlog configuration for my Python application. Use readable console output and show one contextual log event.
Design a production structlog configuration with JSON output, timestamps, log levels, exception details, and bound request context.
Integrate structlog with Python standard logging, then outline pytest assertions for message, level, request identifier, and exception fields.
Review my logging requirements and propose development and production processor chains. Include ProcessorFormatter, context variables, redaction boundaries, performance choices, and testing.
Best Practices
- Configure structlog once during application startup.
- Bind stable request context early and avoid sensitive values.
- Use readable console output locally and structured JSON in production.
Avoid
- Do not configure processor chains separately in every module.
- Do not log secrets, credentials, or unrestricted personal data.
- Do not assume example snippets contain every required import or project setting.
