# Design a lifecycle email sequence

Email teams often lack a clear lifecycle map and send too frequently. This skill creates flow plans with timing, exits, and safeguards before copywriting begins.

## Capabilities

- Maps welcome, cart, browse-abandon, post-purchase, re-engagement, and cold-outbound flows.
- Defines triggers, delays, goals, branches, and exit conditions for each flow.
- Sets global send caps, quiet hours, and fatigue guardrails.
- Creates an engagement-decay and sunset path for inactive recipients.
- Produces a SEND N dimension score with notes for lifecycle coverage.
- Prepares a handoff summary for email copywriting and quality review.

## Use Cases

- Plan a welcome journey: Create a triggered onboarding sequence with progressive goals, timing, and exits for new subscribers.
- Reduce abandoned-cart friction: Design a cart recovery flow with discount branches, purchase exits, and frequency limits.
- Control list fatigue: Set cadence rules, quiet hours, and sunset thresholds across overlapping campaigns.

## Prompt Templates

### Beginner: welcome flow

```
Design a three-step welcome flow for a skincare brand. The trigger is newsletter signup. Include timing, goal, and exit conditions.
```

### Intermediate: cart recovery

```
Build an abandoned-cart sequence for our online store. Use three steps over five days, an exit on purchase, and a discount branch.
```

### Advanced: cadence governance

```
Map our welcome, cart, post-purchase, and re-engagement flows. Set global caps, quiet hours, fatigue rules, and a sunset policy.
```

### Expert: B2B outbound lifecycle

```
Design a cold-outbound sequence for mid-market IT buyers. Include reply exits, role-based branches, send windows, and a SEND N score.
```

## Limitations

- It does not write individual email subjects, bodies, or calls to action.
- It does not calculate final EQS scores or enforce unsubscribe vetoes.
- It requires reliable trigger and segment details for an implementation-ready plan.
- It does not replace legal, consent, or suppression-list review.

## Best Practices

- Confirm the trigger source and target segment before finalizing enrollment rules.
- Use explicit conversion, reply, bounce, and unsubscribe exits in every relevant flow.
- Apply one global send cap across flows to prevent overlapping messages.

## Anti Patterns

- Do not send all recipients through the same flow without lifecycle segmentation.
- Do not continue a sequence after a conversion, reply, unsubscribe, or bounce.
- Do not treat a re-engagement branch as consent to resume mailing indefinitely.

## Security Audit

- Audited at: 2026-07-26T10:18:29.921\+00:00
- Summary: Most static findings are false positives caused by Markdown code fences and relative documentation links. Two risks remain: the Resend shell example lacks safe handling for supplied values, and the save filename is derived from a flow or goal without a stated sanitization rule.
